Aunque yo no tengo el talento de esos autores, sí que intento hacer ilustraciones sofisticadas. Creo que a los niños les encanta la sofisticación y son justamente los padres los que tienen miedo a ese tipo de contenidos y prefieren que consuman productos más edulcoradas y fáciles”.

Por ejemplo, las narraciones fantásticas de Poe han sido ilustradas por grandes autores, pero para mí era un libro muy importante porque, desde que lo leí a los diez años, me marcó mucho. Tenía muy claro cómo debían ser los dibujos e incluso cómo debía ser el aspecto exterior del volumen, todo de negro y hasta con el canto de las hojas en negro”.
Además de su faceta como ilustrador infantil, Lacombe ha desarrollado su labor en campos como la publicidad y las exposiciones. La primera no es una disciplina en la que se encuentre muy a gusto.
